For many, springtime in the South brings a welcomed thaw, blooming trees and gardens. However, there a quite a few of us who know all too well that spring also begins “Drilling Season”, courtesy of cedar and cypress’ only natural predator, the Carpenter Bee. And for some of those especially lucky homeowners, woodpeckers arrive to dig out the bee larvae, and continue the assault .
Every year homeowners struggle to fight off the winged vermin and keep them from devouring their wood siding. Over the years, we have been asked hundreds of times what relief might be out there. There may finally be an answer.
Tom DeMersman from Do-It-Yourself Pest Control has been selling homeowner-applied insecticides in Atlanta for years. It’s no surprise that one of his most popular requests is for help with carpenter bees. DIY has several different insecticides that Tom guarantees will take care of the pests. Timing is critical to winning the battle with carpenter bees. For best results, Tom stresses to begin your treatment before you see the infestation. Typically, this will be at the end of February until the beginning of March. Once the swarming has begun, it will be more difficult and time consuming to eradicate the pests.
